First and foremost… A huge part of how your fundraiser will go is determined by how it is “kicked off”. The flyer distribution is incredibly important to the success of the fundraiser. Kids will only be as excited about something as the person who’s presenting it to them is.Kicking Off
Having their attention is imperative, along with making sure they have instructions on what to do with the flyers. No matter the method, the kids/participants need to be explained the following key points:
- What website to order from
- When orders are due
- What they are raising money for
- Who they should be selling to; family & friends….NO STRANGERS!
Next, more than likely you will have a few weeks to sell the trees. Reminders are a must! Announcements, newsletters, bulletin boards, parent teacher night, open school, sporting events, emails and social media are some ways that the school can help remind the kids and the parents to stay on top of their sale. Urge parents or older children to email and use social media to take orders online.
Motivating
Aside from our prize incentives, we highly recommend adding an incentive of your own for the top seller(s). It could be a gift certificate, or even a special privilege type prize (pick an activity, homework pass, etc.). Even if you decide to delegate a few dollars of the incoming profit for a prize, it will be well worth it! Here’s some ideas for free prize incentives:
Movie for top 10 sellers
No Homework Pass
Sit in the teacher’s Desk for a day
Lunch with principal/teacher of choice
Choose music for the class
Best selling class has class outside
Free admission to school event/game
Wrapping Up
So the sale is wrapping up….. Make sure you let everyone know a week before you say the fundraiser is over. Create a sense of urgency. Allow time for late orders….people wait until the last minute! If your orders are due on October 26th, I would suggest wrapping up your sale no later than October 19th.
Closing Out
As soon as the sale is over, you will be provided with a spreadsheet of all sales made, students who sold them and the customer information. You will also be given a profit breakdown showing the total sales and your profit.
